The New Way Women are Dressing for Work

By Belinda Claxton (August 15, 2017)

Women entrepreneurs are redefining “dress for success”. It’s been over 40 years since “Dress for Success” came out in 1975, unleashing the concept of “power-dressing” and legions of big-shouldered jackets on an unsuspecting world. Thus the suit is no longer a necessity and entrepreneurs are asking themselves, “what am I trying to say in life, business and fashion?”

Power Dressing is finally getting a make-over

A radical new attitude about work wear has developed as more women begin to fend for themselves. It’s less about playing by the rules and more about branding – starting with yourself. The mindset is simple and direct: you visually represent your business, and what you wear can say as much about you as your LinkedIn profile. What you have on is your business card. Dress in minimalist dresses and separates with signature jewellery, a look that’s adequately business like but personal as well. Your shirt or shoe is an opportunity to say as much about your company as your prospectus.

What Women Entrepreneurs are Wearing

She exudes authority but wants to be seen as creative therefore wearing a matching suit is not an option as “too old school”. Switching up her style and mixing separates that stand out in an original way shouts she is going places and of course the latest symbol of success is accessorizing with a sleek smart watch. These women know they may never have a second opportunity to present their best version of themselves to a potential client.
